ACCELERATED GEOMETRY
COURSE SYLLABUS
MS. NANCY BAUM
Course Description: An integrated study of plane and solid geometry with an emphasis on deductive reasoning and the nature of proofs. The course will cover more topics at a much faster pace and will be more difficult than the regular Geometry course in both level and applications of material. Topics included, but not limited to, in the course are: angle relationships, parallel lines and planes, similar and congruent polygons, circles, constructions, loci, right triangle trigonometry, laws of sine and cosine, vectors, area and volume of plane and solid figures, and coordinate geometry and transformations.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I and Teacher Permission.
Learning Outcomes: Outcomes based entirely on the Ohio Academic Content Standards, K-12, Mathematics as set forth by the Ohio Department of Education. Geometry standards for grades eighth, ninth, and tenth grade as well as the Algebraic standards will be covered.
Classroom Rules:
Be on time for class. Be in your set when the tardy bell rings. See handbook for consequences.
Remain seated until permission is granted for dismissal.
Bring pencil, notebook, calculator, compass and text daily.
Be respectful of your teacher and peers
Raise your hand when answering and asking questions.
Locker passes will not be issued.
Food, drink and electronic devices are not permitted in the classroom. See handbook for consequences.
Classroom Consequences:
1st offense - Verbal warning
2nd offense – Detention after school in room 322
3rd offense – Office referral / parent contact
4th offense – Office referral / parent conference
Make-up Policy: It is your responsibility to check the homework board and with the teacher for missed work. Excused absences will be granted two days per absence. Assignments due the first day of the excused absence are due upon return. Failure to complete missed work in a timely manner will result in a “0” grade. Unexcused absences result in an automatic “0” grade for all missed work.

Reward Policy: Homework pass is awarded for each test score of at least 90%. Each pass may be used to replace an existing homework score up to the maximum value. If passes are unable to be redeemed, then each pass is worth 10 extra credit points. It is your responsibility to keep track of the pass. Extra credit may not be available each nine weeks.
Grading Policy: Grades will be calculated on a total point basis: Total points earned ¸ Total points possible. Your grade will consist of homework, quizzes, projects and tests; each of which will be assigned a point value. Homework will be graded at random. Assignments are considered late if not completed by the time the teacher collects or grades the work. Only three late homework assignments per nine weeks will be accepted for half credit the next class period. Any subsequent late homework assignments will result in “0” credit.

Test Retakes: Each test may be retaken only once for up to a score of 75% within one week of the test being returned to the student. Only those problems solved incorrectly must be retaken, no matter how small the error. An explanation and work must accompany each answer. Retakes will be permitted before and after school, 1st period, 3rd period or 8th period.
Extra Assistance: If you need extra assistance please make arrangements to see the teacher. I am available before and after school, 1st period – by appointment, Activity period - room 322, 3rd period – by appointment, and 8th period – room 322.
